Future Scholar Celebrates May With Grants And Gifts
We may be living our lives differently this spring, but we still have much to celebrate! New babies, high school graduations, birthdays, and other special milestones remind us to look toward the future. Future Scholar wants to make that future brighter by providing families and loved ones easy ways to give the gift of education and by offering some special kids a chance to win a contribution to their own Future Scholar accounts.
PalmettoBaby: Celebrating May 29 babies on 529 Day
Do you know someone who’s expecting a baby on May 29? Or maybe that expectant parent is you!
May 29 is National 5-2-9 Day, and Future Scholar will celebrate this special day with the annual PalmettoBaby Grant Program. Every baby born in South Carolina on 5/29/2020 is eligible to receive a privately funded $529 PalmettoBaby grant when the baby’s parent opens a Future Scholar 529 College Savings account. These PalmettoBabies will receive an exciting jumpstart on their Future Scholar savings the day they are born, but 5-2-9 Day is also the perfect time for all families to get a head start toward a special child’s future education by opening a Future Scholar account.
Parents of babies born on May 29 can learn more about how to apply for their newborn’s grant online here.
ConGRADulations to high school seniors
While graduation may look a little different for the Class of 2020, the joy of reaching this important milestone shines bright!
The Future Scholar 529 College Savings Plan is recognizing the Class of 2020 by offering 20 lucky graduates the chance to win a privately funded $529 grant for their future education expenses.
Here’s how you can nominate your graduating senior for a chance to win $529 to help with college expenses:
1. Post a picture or video of your South Carolina graduating senior with a congratulatory message on your personal Facebook page!
2. Tag the senior in your post.
3. Add the hashtag #FutureScholarConGRADulations2020.
4. "Like" the State Treasurer's Office Facebook page.
On May 27, we'll randomly choose 20 winners from all entries to receive a privately funded $529 Future Scholar grant. Find contest rules here.
Easy gift-giving that helps children reach their goals
“Education is the perfect gift for any occasion. It doesn’t break, won’t go out of style and never gets lost,” says State Treasurer Curtis Loftis. For birthdays, baby showers and any other occasion in a child’s life, choose to give a contribution to a Future Scholar account. With Future Scholar, you can celebrate that special moment while looking to the future and helping a child’s dreams come true.
A contribution to Future Scholar is also easy to give, no shopping required. Check out these three ways to get the giving started:
Gift cards
Future Scholar gift cards can be purchased and redeemed online for amounts ranging from $25 to $200. You can choose to have a physical card mailed to the recipient, get an instant link by text, or have a link emailed to you and the recipient. Learn how it works.
